Meet Sagar Indurkhya: Chief Scientist

Our Meet the Team series showcases the brilliant and talented experts at Virtualitics who are dedicated to empowering organizations with AI-driven analytics and applications.

“I really enjoy engaging with our users and iterating with them on how we can continue to refine and extend our solutions,” says Dr. Sagar Indurkhya, Chief Scientist at Virtualitics. “My goal is to balance incorporating the latest AI technologies with delivering a user-friendly product that solves the ever-evolving business challenges that our customers face.”

For Sagar, the transition from academia to industry was fueled by an insatiable curiosity and a drive to push the boundaries of AI. While completing his PhD in Computer Science—focusing on Natural Language Processing and AI—he developed a keen interest in applied research and development. That passion led him to Virtualitics, a rapidly growing Caltech-based startup at the forefront of AI and machine learning.

My brother was the one who introduced me to the company and, after a visit to the headquarters in Pasadena, I was sold,” explains Sagar. “I’ve been here for more than five years now and I’m still excited by the constant learning opportunities I get working with our exceptionally talented technical team.”

Driving the Future of AI-Enabled Decision Intelligence

Now serving as the Chief Scientist, Sagar is responsible for overseeing the research and development of cutting-edge AI-driven features within the Virtualitics platform. He collaborates closely with data scientists to integrate these innovations into real-world applications, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of AI-powered analytics.

His work has played a key role in Virtualitics’ success with its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts, securing multiple Phase 3 awards with the U.S. Department of Defense. As Principal Investigator for numerous SBIR contracts, Sagar has led efforts to develop mission-focused AI solutions for military and government use.

Beyond his technical contributions, Sagar also manages the Virtualitics Scientific Advisory Board, collaborating with faculty from Caltech and MIT to ensure the company’s R&D efforts align with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning.

Exploring the Power of Generative AI

One of Sagar’s current projects is centered around the integration of Generative AI capabilities into Virtualitics’ Integrated Readiness Optimization (IRO) applications. He’s interested in the potential of Large Language Models to extract insights from unstructured data, especially within an agentic framework.

“My goal is to enhance the ability of AI systems to extract meaningful insights, reason through recommended actions in response to these insights, and even automate the execution of these actions,” Sagar says.

He’s also deeply involved in advancing Virtualitics’ Automated Master Storage Planning solution, which is a critical component of IRO Materiel. This project aims to revolutionize how defense agencies optimize storage and logistics through AI-driven automation.

For Sagar, his role at Virtualitics is a natural extension of his love of science fiction, which feeds his curiosity around the boundaries of technological innovations and their impact on society. With his passion for discovery and exploration, Sagar is eager to keep shaping the future of AI adoption across industries.

To hear more of his insights on the real-world impact of applied AI, join us at the Frontiers of AI for Readiness Summit. Sagar will be moderating the panel discussion, “Real-World Innovation: AI on the Mission Edge,” where he and other visionaries will discuss how to shape the future of readiness.
